Cummins Engine Repair

The engine half the highway runs

Cummins power — ISX15s and X15s above all — moves a huge share of Sacramento’s freight across Kenworths, Peterbilts, Internationals, and more. We’re an independent shop (no Cummins affiliation) that diagnoses and repairs these platforms daily: the data-first way, with estimates before wrenches.

What Cummins work looks like here

  • Diagnostics — fault codes, live data, and the mechanical tests electronics can’t do; ISX/X15 derates are one of our most common calls
  • Aftertreatment — the system behind most modern Cummins downtime: regens, DPF cleaning, DEF/SCR faults, EGR
  • Fuel systems — injectors and supply-side faults, tested before parts are condemned
  • Turbos — the VGT units these engines run, tested before replaced
  • Top-end work — overhead adjustments and the honest rebuild-vs-repair conversation when the miles say it’s time (how we frame that decision)

Honesty about the dealer question

Sacramento has an authorized Cummins dealer, and for warranty work and factory campaigns that’s where you should go. For everything after warranty — which is most of a working engine’s life — an independent shop that knows the platform gets you the same repair with your schedule respected.

My X15 is derating — sensor or real?

That’s exactly the question diagnosis answers before money moves. Roughly as often as not it’s a sensor or aftertreatment fault, not the engine — call (916) 571-8888 and we’ll read what the ECM already knows.

Do you do inframe rebuilds?

We diagnose to the point of knowing what the right job is, quote it honestly, and tell you when a job’s scope belongs elsewhere. No unseen-engine rebuild quotes on a webpage — ever.

Which trucks with Cummins do you see most?

Kenworths, Peterbilts, and Internationals — the platform crosses badges, and so do we.

Which trucks carry it, and why that is the useful starting point

Cummins is the engine that crosses brand lines. The same ISX15 or X15 turns up in Kenworths, Peterbilts, Internationals and Freightliners, which is exactly why the badge on the hood tells you less about the service path than the engine underneath it does.

For a mixed fleet that is an advantage worth using. If several different makes in your yard share Cummins power, the diagnostic approach, parts channel and aftertreatment work are largely common across them — which makes scheduling simpler than the variety of nameplates suggests.

Aftertreatment on these engines is a normal part of the job here rather than a referral: forced regens, DPF cleaning and replacement, and DEF and SCR repair.
