Service items that are specific to the platform

The ISX15 and X15 carry an overhead that needs periodic valve and injector adjustment, and lash that has drifted shows up as rough idle, power loss and a noisy engine brake — see valve adjustment. The variable-geometry turbo’s electric actuator is a far more common failure than the turbo itself. EGR coolers and valves, the fuel pump and the aftertreatment doser round out the usual list. Medium-duty Cummins engines (B6.7 and L9) appear in International, Freightliner, Peterbilt and Kenworth medium-duties and bring hydraulic brakes and Allison automatics into the service picture.

My X15 is derating — sensor or real?

Cummins is the engine that crosses brand lines. The same ISX15 or X15 turns up in Kenworths, Peterbilts, Internationals and Freightliners, which is exactly why the badge on the hood tells you less about the service path than the engine underneath it does.

For a mixed fleet that is an advantage worth using. If several different makes in your yard share Cummins power, the diagnostic approach, parts channel and aftertreatment work are largely common across them — which makes scheduling simpler than the variety of nameplates suggests.

Aftertreatment on these engines is a normal part of the job here rather than a referral: forced regens, DPF cleaning and replacement, and DEF and SCR repair.

Does the X15 need its overhead adjusted?

Yes, on the interval the engine’s manual sets, and sooner if idle quality, power or engine-brake behavior changes. It is one of the few scheduled engine-internal services on a modern diesel and one of the most skipped.
