What actually fails

• Dosing systems — pumps and injectors that crystallize or quit; the most common hardware culprit
• Heaters — DEF freezes; failed tank/line heaters strand trucks on cold mornings
• NOx and quality sensors — frequent liars condemned wholesale by shops that don’t test; we test
• The fluid itself — contaminated or aged DEF poisons the system; sometimes the repair is a flush and a fresh fill from a sealed jug
• Wiring — faults that wear a scary “tampering” label while being a chafed harness

3. Repair, then verify dosing and NOx conversion under load — the lamp staying off is the result, not the goal

Is aftermarket DEF fluid safe?

Sealed, in-spec (ISO 22241) fluid from a reputable source is fine; bulk fluid of unknown history and anything stored in a used container is how systems get poisoned. When in doubt, cheap insurance is a fresh sealed jug.
