DPF Cleaning

Cleaning is for ash. Know before you spend.

Regens burn soot; they can’t touch ash — the mineral residue that accumulates over a filter’s life until backpressure and regen frequency climb. That’s when off-truck cleaning earns its cost. But cleaning a cracked, melted, or end-of-life filter is money burned, which is why every cleaning here starts with an inspection and an honest verdict: clean, or replace.

How we handle it

  • Assessment first — ash/soot data, backpressure, physical inspection; you get the clean-vs-replace call with reasons
  • Off-truck cleaning arranged — removal, professional cleaning, reinstall, and verification under load
  • The upstream check — oil consumption, injectors, turbo health; ash comes from oil, and a truck eating oil will eat the cleaned filter too
  • Documentation — what was measured before and after, in the truck’s service record

Cleaning vs replacement, honestly

Our cost guide lays out the decision factors without fake prices. Short version: a structurally sound filter with ash load = clean; cracks, melting, or repeated failures = replace once, with the cause fixed — see EGR & DPF service for the full system picture. Deletes: never — illegal in California, detectable, and we don’t touch them.

How often does a DPF need cleaning?

Duty-cycle dependent — hundreds of thousands of miles for highway trucks, sooner for idle-heavy or oil-consuming engines. The truck’s own data (regen frequency, backpressure) tells you when; guessing by calendar wastes money in both directions.

Can you clean it while I wait?

Off-truck cleaning takes longer than a waiting room — we’ll give you the real timeline when we book it, and for fleets we schedule around the truck’s downtime window.

My regens are frequent but the filter is “fine.” Clean anyway?

No — diagnose first. Frequent regens with low ash usually means an upstream problem making soot, not a filter needing cleaning. Pay for the right fix.

Managing more than one truck? Filter service is predictable enough to schedule instead of react to. Read about fleet maintenance planning.
