Truck & Trailer ABS Repair

An ABS light is a failed inspection waiting to happen

Anti-lock systems on commercial trucks are inspection items, not suggestions — a lit ABS lamp is an easy violation at a roadside check and a real braking-performance problem in the wet. The good news: most ABS faults are cheap components in inconvenient places, not brake system overhauls.

What usually causes it

  • Wheel speed sensors — the most common failure by far: corroded, knocked out of adjustment, or with a damaged tone ring
  • Wiring and connectors — chafed harnesses and green connectors, especially on trailers that live outside
  • Modulator valves and the ECU — less common, and worth diagnosing properly before anyone replaces one on a guess
  • Power and ground problems on trailer ABS — a bad blue-wire feed can light the lamp with nothing wrong at the wheels

Diagnosis first — tractor and trailer

We read the system's blink codes or scan data, test sensors and circuits, and fix the actual fault. ABS work ties into the rest of the brake system and the truck's electrical system — both are in scope in the same bay, which is exactly what ABS problems usually need.

Roadside ABS lamp on a loaded trailer? Mobile service can usually handle sensors and wiring where the trailer sits.

Common questions

Can I keep driving with the ABS light on?

The service brakes still work — ABS is an overlay — but you're one wet on-ramp from finding out why it matters, and one inspection from a violation. Get it diagnosed promptly.

Will an ABS fault fail a DOT inspection?

An illuminated ABS malfunction lamp is a violation on vehicles required to have ABS. Since we do DOT inspections in-house, we see exactly how inspectors treat it — fix it before the inspection, not after.

Do you work on trailer ABS?

Yes — trailer ABS faults (sensors, wiring, power feeds) are some of the most common ABS calls we get, in the shop or at your dock.

Managing more than one truck? ABS faults are an inspection item, not just a dash light. Read about fleet inspections and compliance.
