Semi Truck Clutch Replacement & Repair

Clutches wear out — the question is whether you choose the timing

A commercial clutch gives warning for tens of thousands of miles before it strands a load: slipping under power on grades, a pedal that's suddenly light or brutally heavy, grinding into gear, chatter pulling away loaded. Caught early, it's a scheduled job. Ignored, it's a tow and a flywheel bill.

Signs it's time

  • Engine revs climb but the truck doesn't pull — classic slip, worst on grades and loaded pulls
  • Hard shifting or grinding — often clutch drag or a failing clutch brake rather than the transmission itself
  • Chatter or shudder on takeoff
  • Pedal feel changes — free play gone, or effort suddenly different

Adjustment, repair, or replacement — honestly

Not every clutch complaint is a clutch job. Manual-adjust clutches drift out of spec; linkages and clutch brakes fail on their own; and some “clutch” symptoms are driveline or transmission problems wearing a disguise. We diagnose first, tell you which one you have, and quote the real job before pulling anything — if it IS a replacement, we'll also tell you what the flywheel and release components look like while everything's apart, because doing those at the same time is dramatically cheaper than doing them next month.

Common questions

How long does a semi clutch replacement take?

It depends on the truck and what's found once the transmission is back — we'll give you a realistic window when we quote, and update you if the flywheel changes the plan. What we won't do is promise a same-day number on this page sight-unseen.

Can you just adjust it instead of replacing it?

If there's friction material left and the truck has a manual-adjust clutch — yes, and we'll say so. Adjustment is a fraction of the cost; we only sell the replacement when the wear says so.

My truck has an automated transmission — do you handle those clutches?

Automated manuals still have clutches, and they still wear. Call with the year and model — we'll tell you straight whether it's work we take on for your setup.
