PACCAR MX Engine Repair

The house engine of Kenworth and Peterbilt

PACCAR’s MX-13 and MX-11 power a growing share of the T680s and 579s on the road — smooth, efficient, and particular about maintenance. We service MX platforms as an independent shop (no PACCAR affiliation), with the diagnostic patience their electronics reward.

MX work we handle

  • Diagnostics — MX fault behavior read with data; derate and regen complaints are the bread and butter
  • Aftertreatmentforced regens, DEF/SCR repair, DPF cleaning, EGR service
  • Fuel and air — injector and boost-side faults, turbo checks before turbo replacements
  • The scheduled stuff — MX engines repay disciplined PM more visibly than most; stretch intervals blind and they’ll tell you about it

One shop for engine and truck

The MX lives in trucks we already service daily — Kenworth and Peterbilt — so the engine work happens where the brakes, electrical, and inspections happen too. One calendar, one number.

Is the MX harder to get serviced independently than Cummins?

It’s newer to the aftermarket than Cummins’ half-century head start, but the platform is well within independent-shop territory now — parts and data access included. We’ll tell you straight if a specific fault belongs at the dealer.

MX-13 regen frequency is climbing — worry?

Climbing regen frequency is the engine asking for attention — duty cycle, sensors, or soot production. Diagnose early and it’s maintenance; ignore it and it’s a flashing lamp at the worst time.

Do you handle the 2021+ MX updates?

Call with the year and truck — we’ll be straight about what we service in-house versus what a specific late-model fault needs from the dealer network.

The PACCAR house engine, in two badges

The MX-13 is PACCAR's own engine, which means it arrives in one of two chassis: a Kenworth or a Peterbilt. Owners who have run Cummins power for years and then take delivery of an MX truck are working with a different platform — different diagnostic software and a different parts channel — even though the truck around it looks familiar.

That matters most for fleets running a mix. A yard with both MX and Cummins units is effectively running two engine programs, and treating them as one is how intervals drift and diagnoses go sideways. Worth separating them in your maintenance planning rather than filing everything under the truck brand.

Emissions and aftertreatment work is done here rather than referred out: forced regens, DPF cleaning and replacement, and DEF and SCR repair.
