Fleet Service for Food & Beverage Distribution
The direct answer: a food or beverage distribution fleet has a maintenance problem the calendar creates: the trucks that most need service are the ones that cannot be spared, because the route runs whether the truck is ready or not. The work has to happen in the gap between the last delivery and the next load — which is why we schedule overnight and weekend work for fleets that run seven days.
What this duty cycle does to equipment
Distribution trucks live a life of short runs and many stops. That is harder on a vehicle than highway miles in most of the ways that cost money:
- Brakes wear at a rate highway trucks never see — dozens of stops per shift, often loaded, often on grades.
- Aftertreatment struggles. Short runs and long idles mean the exhaust never gets hot enough to burn soot cleanly, so regens come more often and DPFs load faster. That is a duty-cycle problem, not a fault, and treating it as a fault gets expensive.
- Liftgates, doors and latches cycle constantly and are usually what strands a delivery, not the engine.
- Reefer units on refrigerated fleets are a second engine with its own service needs and its own compliance exposure in California.
- Batteries and charging take a beating from repeated restarts and tail-lift draw.
Why scheduling matters more than anything else
Most distribution fleets we talk to do not have a maintenance knowledge problem. They know what the trucks need. What they do not have is a window. A truck that leaves the yard at 4am and returns at 6pm cannot visit a shop that closes at 5.
That is the practical reason we do scheduled overnight and weekend work by arrangement: the vehicle is serviced while it would otherwise be parked, and it is ready before the next route. For a fleet running to a delivery schedule, that is worth more than any hourly rate difference.
What we do for distribution fleets
- Preventive maintenance set from route profile and stop count, not just odometer
- Brake service on an interval that matches how hard the route actually works them
- Emissions and aftertreatment — forced regens, DPF cleaning and replacement, DEF and SCR repair — in our own bays
- DOT and CARB inspections scheduled ahead of deadlines rather than as emergencies
- Mobile service at your dock when the truck should not move
- Box trucks, straight trucks and medium-duty as readily as tractors — see box truck fleets
Common questions
Can you service our trucks overnight?
Yes — scheduled overnight and weekend work is available by arrangement. Tell us the window the truck is free and we will plan the work into it.
Our DPFs keep loading up. Is something wrong with the trucks?
Often not. Short-run, high-idle duty cycles genuinely load filters faster than highway work. The useful question is whether the interval matches the duty cycle, and whether anything upstream — injectors, turbo — is adding soot it should not.
Do you work on refrigerated units?
Ask us about your specific units before you plan around it. Reefer work is its own discipline and we would rather tell you honestly what we do and do not handle than take the truck and disappoint you.
How do you handle a fleet running seven days?
By planning the calendar around your routes rather than ours. That is the whole point of the fleet assessment — we need to see how the operation actually runs before proposing intervals.
Where to start
Tell us how many trucks you run, what routes they cover, and where maintenance currently gets squeezed. We will tell you plainly whether we can take the volume and what a rhythm would look like — including if the answer is that we are not the right fit.
